Coastal Crusaders is a non-profit organisation created in 2023 by a teenager on a mission to make a difference.
Zoey has always been passionate about protecting the environment, especially our vulnerable marine life. After countless hours of cleaning the beaches and filling holes to protect the sea turtles during nesting season, she realised that education is vital. So many people simply don’t know the importance of leaving the beach clean dark and flat.
This set Zoey out on a mission to educate and also the creation of Coastal Crusaders.
She has hosted large beach clean-ups and organised numerous hole patrols, castle flattening, and trash clean-ups. Zoey also started the Beach Box initiative to help keep beach toys and other items out of the waterways and landfills. She also volunteers her time with other local environmental groups, as she strongly believes in the importance of us all working together to make the biggest impact on our planet.
Ways To Volunteer
- While walking the beaches during clean-ups and hole patrols, Zoey noticed that numerous toys, chairs, and other reusable beach items were frequently abandoned on the shore. Recognizing the necessity to prevent these items from ending up in landfills and waterways, she started the Beach Box initiative. Beach Boxes serve as an excellent method for upcycling; they allow visitors to borrow and leave behind items they no longer want or can’t fit in their luggage for their flight home. Each box is uniquely painted with custom artwork painted by Zoey.
- Regular beach clean-ups events
- Hole Patrol – Help sea turtles to carry out their breeding rituals by ensuring beaches are kept flat and clear of obstacles. Fill in holes, flatten sand castles and clear away trash.
