Sólheimar is a sustainable community where more than 100 individuals live and work together. Sólheimar was founded in 1930 by Sesselja Hreindís Sigmundsdóttir (1902-1974). The built-up area Sólheimar focuses on human cultivation and nature. A strong social service is run at Sólheimar where individuals from diverse backgrounds are provided with opportunities for employment and vocational training, residence, social and cultural work.
Græna Kannan Café is a restaurant and meeting-place for Sólheimar’s residents and guests alike. If you want to experience Sólheimar through your taste-buds, Græna Kannan is the best place to do so. It is located in the heart of the village and uses raw materials from the locality, inclucing Sunna Market Garden and Tröllagarður.
In the café you will also find the Vala Art Shop with its range of attractive artworks, candles, certified organic herbal products and many other things made at Sólheimar. Events are also held in the café; these are announced in the “Á döfinni” (Happening Soon) section of the Information centre.
